Quick Tip: Good Looking Buttons for Your Web Site

Would you like professional looking custom buttons for your web site?  A lot of people have web sites that look like they are stuck in a time machine and were originally built around 1995. Here’s the quick and dirty way that I make nice professional buttons for my web sites using Microsoft Office tools.

1. Open Powerpoint

  • Open Microsoft Office Powerpoint and create a blank presentation with a white background (or background that matches your site)
  • Create a blank slide
  • Use the “Drawing” tool to create a nice button in the shape you want (example below)
  • Type some text into the button
  • Click on the “Quick Styles” button to pick a nice 3D style shading and color
  • Here is a sample made with the rounded rectangle drawing tool and a “Quick Style” pick of blue with shading on the borders

2.  Now Use Microsoft OneNote to Clip and Save It

  • Open your copy of OneNote
  • Open a blank page in OneNote
  • Use the “Clip” tool to make a screen clipping of your button from the powerpoint window
  • Right click on your clipping in OneNote to save it as a graphics file

That’s it – now you can upload your saved button into WordPress or include it on your web page as an image.
